Immunity Boosting Eats

Foods that help you stay healthy

Did you know certain foods contain vitamins and minerals that can help boost your immune system and keep you healthy? While none of these foods will cure an illness, they can help you from getting sick.

Vitamin C - found in many citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges, limes, and grapefruits. Vitamin C has been found to boost immune cell functions and therefore your overall immunity. Yellow and red bell peppers are also a great source of vitamin C. While fresh and whole consumption is best even adding lemon or lime to your water can help!

Omega-3 fatty acids - these “good fatty acids” are anti-inflammatory and are mostly found in seafood. There are several types of fish to choose from such as salmon, mackerel, and trout. Try adding one or two servings of fish to your diet every week.

Vitamin A - helps to fight infection. This vitamin is found abundantly in broccoli and spinach. Broccoli also gives you the bonus of vitamins E and C! Add spinach to your salads or roast up broccoli to get the most nutrients.

Vitamin E - is not just great for your skin. Vitamin E, found in almonds and sunflower seeds, is a great antioxidant. Eat just a half cup daily and you will also benefit from the selenium and healthy fats found in nuts.

Many spices are also immune boosters. Garlic, ginger, and turmeric are well known for their many immune-boosting benefits. Use them to season your vegetables or lean meats.

Adding just a few servings of fresh fruits and vegetables to your daily diet can help boost your immunity. So don’t feel overwhelmed by choices or how much you need to eat; small steps do make a big difference!
